CCCs are not necessary

Hello,

Thank you for soliciting our feedback. At this point in my career, I feel that making SLPs earn and maintain their CCC's is primarily a moneymaking enterprise for ASHA. I give $250 dollars yearly to maintain my CCCs and get NOTHING in return. ASHA charges us for accruing CEU's, offering no discounts or anything free from our $250 yearly dues. I certainly recognize the need for a state license and earning professional education hours, however, ASHA is double dipping. We earned our CCC's after completing all the necessary educational requirements at the graduate level, taking the Praxis and completing a clinical fellowship year (which no other rehabilitation discipline requires). Then we have paid $225-250 EVERY year to maintain it. It is highway robbery! I have come to believe that making SLPs have CCC's is only a money making enterprise for ASHA that SLPs have been funding for years, and it is time to stop. A license from the commonwealth of Virginia and the requirements to maintain it are sufficient to be a practicing SLP here.

Respectfully,

Alison Leclaire
