Abortion facilities provide medical services to women and thus it is only logical they be subject to common sense regulatory oversight. I have read the 2018 inspection reports for Virginia abortion facilities and am appalled by what has occurred (with regulations in place!) Abortion clinics are facilities that perform life altering procedures daily (as well as carry out standard medical practices such as administering medications and anesthesia). It would be nonsensical to diminish regulatory oversight. Regulations would not impede women’s rights but rather insure their safety by implementing regulations for infection prevention and proper medication administration (like not having expired medications, as one facility was caught doing), patient privacy, and appropriate record keeping. Abortion facilities need regulations like every other medical facility.
