What is the emergency nature of this regulation? Disarming good citizens (who are the only ones likely to obey the prohibition) does not make them safer; it makes them more vulnerable than ever to terrorists, violent criminals, and the criminally insane. We have never had a terrorist threat more serious than the one we are now facing; the threat grows by the day. This prohibition on those with a concealed handgun permit, some of whom have active and ongoing threats to their lives, is entirely without any justification and needlessly and recklessly endangers innocent lives.
It is important to note that Virginia’s Governor has no authority to issue this regulation. If the General Assembly wanted the Governor to have such power, the members would have granted it to him explicitly, as is required constitutionally.
As a registered voter of Virginia, I strongly support the following two positions:
This regulation should NOT be approved.
The emergency regulation should be withdrawn immediately.
