The American folk belief in safety through guns is false. You have only to look at police. Every American officer has a gun; last year FIFTY died from gunshot wounds. On Great Britain on ordinary patrol officers have no guns; in 2013 one only died from an attack—and not from a gunshot wound, nor from a knife wound (someone ran over him). In nine of ten gun murders the weapon is a handgun. Handguns in the general population is nothing but trouble—endless trouble.
