Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

VA proposed adoption of transgender policies

As a concerned voter with school aged children in my VA household and one who believes in the need to protect children, I do not approve of their proposed guidelines based on eradicating all distinctions between male and female and the indoctrination our school children.  It is the job of the parents to guide the social, gender, religious and natural development of their children, not the school.  It is completely unacceptable to propose that a school knows better and should encourage development of a child's sexuality without the parents' consent.  This is a huge over reach of government upon the rights of parents to raise their children according to their believes instead of those of politicians who wish to use schools as locations to explore their social agendas.  If a parent wishes to support their child through a gender transition, that is their choice as the care givers of that child.  It is not the choice or right of a school.  And if the parent does not believe such a transition, which has been shown in study after study to be harmful at younger ages, they have the right to protect their children from that.  This is bad policy and must be rejected.
