Support the amendment to allow for choices
Parental notification should be seen as a good thing, not an obstacle. The goal is to have the teachers and parents working together for a student's success. Notifying the parents that a student is reading sensitive material, and what the material contains, is a part of that collaboration. If the teachers have already read the books and materials they are asking the students to read, then it shouldn't be a problem for the teachers to simply pass along that information to the parents. Furthermore, if the teachers have indeed studied this material, and other options to add or not add to their reading lists, why not pass along that information to the parents as alternative choices. Why are we limiting the choices parents and their families can make? The teachers and parental goal is the same, but parents would like to help determine how to get there. This is not about restricting anyone, it's about allowing for options and choice. Please help protect that. Thank you for your time.
