Teachers are trained to select meaningful works that are essential to a worthwhile English Curriculum. We read, do research, and share with trusted collegueges to make the best decisions possible. I encourage parents to take part in their children's education by reading the material that they bring home and by having conversations with their children about the issues and themes presented in this material. If you find something you consider sensitive, take the time to discuss this material with your child. Having these conversations with your child can only strengthen your bond and aid in your child's learning. Have some faith in your teachers to select material that will benefit your student, and have some faith in your student to come to reasonable conclusions about the things they read! Let teachers put their efforts into doing the best job they can do for each and every student in the classroom, rather than forcing them to trip over red tape at every step. This will only detract from the time and energy they can put into a meaningful learning experience for your child.
