VA Gun Ban Is An Extremely Bad Idea

Let us ignore for a second the Second Amendment of the US constitution "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed", because some people have problems with the whole armed citizen and keeping a militia being important to the security of a free state idea in modern society.  Please note: Laws only exist to keep honest people honest. Criminals will break the law. That's what criminals do. Banning LEGAL gun ownership completely fails to address the fact that while it might make it more difficult to readily attain guns, it absolutely does not prevent criminals from ILLEGALLY having guns. It is important to note that all but two of the public massacres since 1950 had been committed by criminals and terrorists in “gun-free zones,” which is exactly what this regulation creates. Also look back on American history for an important lesson: every time America has banned something deemed dangerous to society, it created more problems than it solved. Take Prohibition for example. They banned alcohol, a harmful substance people use to regularly poison themselves recreationally and potentially endangers themselves and others, and the result was widespread illegal alcohol production and consumption which lead to the development of a criminal mobster culture that did not exist beforehand. The current war on drugs in the US is equally ineffective and in part fuels gang culture and the waste of human lives. The only difference is now with banning guns, not only does it do nothing about preventing illegal and black market trading of guns, it makes it impossible for law abiding citizens to defend themselves. It all comes down to intent. There will always be people who aim to do harm, and they will be able to do it whether guns are legal or not. Banning guns will do nothing to stop them, it will only prevent good people who take self defense with guns seriously from having the chance or ability to stop them.
