The right to self defense is the most fundemental human right, one without which all other rights prove meaningless. Govenor McAullife would, by executive fiat, expand the areas where this most fundemental right cannot be efectively exercised, In imposing this executive action the Govenor must realize that:

• This regulation would not make it through any Virginia legislative bodies or committees and hence this action was authored specifically to circumvent the electoral will of the citizens of Virginia as expressed by their state senators and representitives.

• All except two of the mass killing events occurring in the United States since the '50s happened in areas where citizens could not legally carry firearms, yet the govenor now wants to expand these types of "Criminal Empowerment Zones" even more broadly.

• That this regulation expands the likelihood that citzens will inadvertently violate the law, complicate the logistics for citizens out running errands that include visits to these effective self-defense free zones, makes it more likely that firearms left in cars while running these errands will be stolen, all without conferring any discernible benefit to the state or its citizens. 

I'll note in closing the Michael Bloomberg contributed quite a bit of money to the Democratic Party last election cycle, but realized nothing in the way of gains at the polls, making it less than difficult to interpret this action as a feeble attempt to repay a political benefactor. The Govenor's actions neither serve the citizens of Virginia or will result in any tangible benefit and hence this regulation ought not to be adopted.
