Infringing upon citizens' right to vote

Denying a citizen the right to vote because his or her Driver's License or Passport has expired hurts our democracy. Photo ID laws already cause considerable harm to our democracy by discouraging citizens who do not have photo ID. While the Board of Elections has taken some measures to alleviate this harm, excluding expired Driver's Licenses and Passports from the list of acceptable forms of ID would exacerbate the harm tremendously, and has no possible justification. If the intent of photo ID laws is to be taken at face value, then the purpose is to establish identification. Though expired, a Driver's License and or Passport is still among the most reliable documents available for establishing identity. Please don't reverse the good work the Board has done to reduce the harm caused by laws passed by the VA General Assembly. Protect voters' rights by preserving a list of acceptable ID that includes expired Driver's Licenses and Passports.
