Dry needling also called Myofascial Trigger Point Dry Needling is the use of solid filiform needles or hollow-core hypodermic needles for muscle pain or myofascial pain syndrome. It is a part of the modern acupuncture. Theoretically dry needling needs to look for the trigger points in or near the muscle(many physicians use trigger point therapy, such as physiatrists (physicians specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation), family medicine, and orthopedics) ; Modern acupuncture needs to check ‘’Ah Shi” points, channel network and connection points , also myofascial trigger points in the still and moving condition, and nerve system distribution area. In addition, Modern acupuncture impales needles to various depth from skin to periosteum, not limited to muscles. Technically dry needling may use solid filiform needles or hollow-core hypodermic needles; Acupuncture may use all kinds of needles with different gauges and lengths, sometimes it may use injection of medicine or non-medicine solution (allowed in some states). It is not necessary to isolate (separate) the dry needling from modern acupuncture. All this needling practice should have acupuncture license and long term acupuncture practice for safety and effectivity.
