As a patient who has benefited from a PTs use of dry needling, I support the continued use of the technique by qualified PTs. Dry needling fits well within the scope of a PTs portfolio for reliving pain through trigger point therapy. Only PTs with formal training and experience should be allowed to perform the procedure. By limiting the technique to only acupuncturists requires patients to seek out multiple health care professionals to identify causes of pain and then to provide treatment. PTs have the ability to identify causes of pain based on their knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology and treat issues using several techniques, to include dry needling. By allowing qualified PTs the option of performing dry needling is the best course of action for the patient. I support qualified PTs use of dry needling.
