As a current counselor-in-training at VCU, I value that my program has been validated as a CACREP/CORE program. Each student seeks to attend a program that will properly prepare and train us in the current practices and standards regarding practice as a counselor. Unifying our Virginia programs under CACREP/CORE will help to clarify any potential confusion about the various forms of accreditation. I previously worked for a private school in Virginia in which students often reported feeling misled regarding accreditation for various programs and implications for their practice, certification, and job prospects upon graduation. My support of this development is contingent upon uploading the grandfather clause to allow current practicing counselors to maintain their place in the field. Schools who wish to provide the best program for their students and to encourage a consensus within the field will support this measure.
