I've seen a lot of people talking about CACREP accreditation implying a level of consistency. While that may be partially true, I still disagree and think it could do just the opposite. I've seen examples of programs that are not CACREP accredited that yield a more "advanced" degree than some, less rigorous programs that are CACREP accredited. That doesn't sound like much of a standard to me.

Also, I feel like in the field of counseling, education is one thing but experience is a whole separate entity. Someone who has practiced for 20 years, for example, and did not receive their degree from a CACREP accredited program, does it seem fair to put that person in the same boat with someone who has 6 months of experience from a non-CACREP program? Absolutely not. Experience speaks well beyond CACREP and in no way would it be fair to limit thousands and thousands of qualified and experienced helping professionals because of this accreditation. I think that, instead of this proposal that would limit and hinder many people, there should be something done that promotes everyone who could possibly be affected, to strive and better themselves towards a more clear-cut set of standards.
