Please do not allow a dental assistant to scale below the gingival tissue.  As a hygienist I went through 2 yrs of intense training to be able to perform such a task.  Allowing this to pass would be a total insult to our profession.  NO ONE with less than 2 yrs training should not be allowed to do this.  Patients do not want this kind of treatment.  What if cardiologists were allowed to perform surgeries with less education?  Our dental patients deserve the best care.  Don't take that away from them.
