Teachers provide a class syllabus, which should list the various works to be read during the school year. Parents are responsible for reading the syllabus for each class, and if parents object to a particular work, teachers are more than willing to provide an alternative. What we don't need is more micromanagement!
In my fourteen years of teaching, I've only had one parent object to a novel. I was more than happy to provide an alternative, which the parent accepted. What we have is a few parents complaining, and as a result, the current procedures have to change to appease them. Let's not be bullied!
This is just one more reason teachers will decide to leave public education.
