This proposal should be rejected. It is incomprehensible to imagine that all “controversial” content in selections can be identified. What is controversial or objectionable to some is not to others. Too many interpretations can be made about the same selection. We must rely on educators to continue to send home reading lists, and we should expect parents to be aware of reading selections throughout the school year. Current policies exist in schools so that parents have the opt-out ability for their children. Allow this process to work as a way for parents to have a choice.
