Yes, some reading materials might be inappropriate for students to read at various grade levels. Books are meant to enhance and mold our children into educated and informed individuals.
Yes, it is up to the parent to decide what their child reads. If a parent has a problem with a class novel, they are more than welcome to express their concerns prior to beginning the novel unit. However, having teachers walk on eggshells around what may or may not be sensitive materials is ridiculous. How can we expect them to determine what is offensive to various student populations?
REJECT this amendment. Do our students a favor and replenish our faith in the public school system. I do not want my daughter's reading materials to be sucked dry of literary value. I am afraid she is being brought up in a school system run by parents, not by licensed educators.
