I am a priest and have spent much time teaching the 16yr-Adult confirmation classes. Along with theology, sexual education is obviously a main topic. Our usual chuch teaching is that contraception and birth control are requirements for responssible married or dating / engaged couples. Here on the shore many of our children -
teens are poor, and getting them to a doctor is difficult, and can frequently come out of the clergy person's pocket.
I know that Medically inappropriate and unnecessarily burdensome regulations would restrict access to essential health care services for the women of Virginia and further marginalize young, low-income, uninsured and minority teens by decreasing - functionally eliminating - their health care options. These people need much more help and protection, not less. They need it close to home in familiar clinical settings. Planned Parenthood is THE place for contraception, for STD medication and for reproductive system exams. Romove them and half the shore's women will have no where to go. TRAP will guarantee more pregnancies, more un-monitered pregnancies, earlier pregnancies, unwanted children and no place for cancer screenings, or checkups & medical care for other "female" problems. It would be a devastating blow to women here and throughout Virginia.
