1) The General Assembly passed this into law; a governor should not be able to overturn/withdraw from something the General Assembly passed, simply because he doesn’t like it. Only the General Assembly can do such a thing.
2) How does the governor think economically stressed cities such as Norfolk and Portsmouth can pay for mitigating efforts without support from elsewhere? The state is going to pay for it all?
3) The trivial amount that might be added to my electric bill does not compare to the significant increases in the amount of flood insurance we now have to pay. When I purchased my house, I did not require flood insurance - now I’m in a “Special Hazard” zone with it significant increasing annual costs.
4) All of us (states and cities) on the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic coast are facing the impact of climate change on our homes and livelihoods, it’s best we come together to address this. To quote our very own Virginian, Patrick Henry, “United we stand. Divided we fall.”
