I oppose the governor’s attempt to remove Virginia from RGGI for the following reasons: it violates the 2020 law that Virginia participate in RGGI, it works it reduces emissions, it is needed to enable Virginia to achieve carbon free power by 2050 as set forth in the Virginia Clean Economy Act, it improves public health which saves lives and money, it is helping Virginians right now by providing reduced energy bills for low income households and creating good local jobs and provides dedicated funds to plan for and prevent flooding which will cost the state billions of dollars if left uncheck.
Fix the utility code instead. Monopoly providers like Dominion and Appalachian Power have been allowed to rewrite the code in their favor allowing them over invest in fossil fuel plants while passing on the costs to these risky investments to the rate payers.
If the governor really wants to lower utility costs to the consumer he will abandon this unlawful attempt and support monopoly utility rate reforms instead.
