I oppose this policy. "Sexually explicit content" is a vague, variable term on its own, but the way it is defined as it is in this policy (Subsection 3 of Virginia code 18.2-390) ensures it includes homosexuality. This definition has the potential to censor all discussion of LGBTQ+ topics in Virginia schools, an action which would harm every Virginian student, especially those who identify as LGBTQ+. To support this policy would demonstrate explicit discrimination of LGBTQ+ students. LGBTQ+ topics are not inherently sexually explicit, and are essential for every student to learn about.
