This is nothing but a transparent attempt to censor the LGBTQ community. “Sexually explicit content” is a vague buzz word intended to scare parents. I support our schools and teachers to select age-appropriate content on a variety of subjects and trust their judgment on this matter. (I’ll also note that schools currently offer an “opt out” option for family life education. Families may opt out if desired without affecting other children’s educations). While I support transparency,, parents should NOT be dictating lesson plans. Public schools do not exist to teach what parents want their kids to learn, they exist to teach kids what society needs them to know to become contributing members of society as adults. It is important that our school curriculum reflects the diversity of our communities and Virginia is a diverse state. I strongly oppose this proposed bill and support our teachers.
