I do not support this bill or state representatives that would pass it.

I personally never received proper sex education going to a public school in my home state of Tennessee. We had abstinence only education at my school and never actually learned how to protect ourselves for sexual activity. Looking back, I realize it was a dangerous curriculum to leave teenagers without this protectionary knowledge. I would hope the state of Virginia will not leave their students in a similar situation.

Furthermore, I do not support the strain this will add to teacher's workloads and stress. This bill emphasizes that policies shall reflect confidence in parents. What about confidence in teachers? We already have Standards of Learning for public classrooms. If this is the issue, update the SOLs instead of placing an unnecessary burden on educators to provide alternative activities. Teachers are already leaving the profession in droves due to regulations like this one and low pay. Don't give them another reason to give up teaching.

Please protect our children's right to learn.

Please protect our teacher's mental health.

Vote no on this unnecessary bill.
