I strongly oppose this regulation as it will do nothing to make Virginians and visitors to our state facilities safe in any way. I am a uniformed federal police officer with U.S government security clearance and have undergone background checks that would make the NICS check look like a casual stroll in the park. Criminals intent on commiting crimes in state buildings could not care any less about signs or regulations. They will just go in and do what they want when they want to do it. The only people who would be effected by this regulation is the law abiding gun owner and their families. If anyone took an honest look at other locations where shootings have occured you will see that many were stopped or curtailed by law abiding gun owners who had their guns with them when the shooting started. Police take minutes to arrive on scene, then a lot of minutes to get set up and ready to encounter an active shooter. By the time police engage the shooter the body count is considerable. An armed law abiding gun owner can usually stop or severly curtail the active shooter long before police arrive. This regulation simply makes law abiding people sitting ducks and for the bad guys who are intent on doing evil well, they will just be shooting fish in a barrel.
