As a former police officer, I wholeheartedly oppose this rule.

As a former member of Virginia law enforcement, I emphatically oppose this measure. Lawfully carried firearms should be allowed on public property, and armed society is a polite society. There has been no rash of incidents to prompt such a rule, it's merely a political move, and that is even more discouraging. I'm not sure how a state Lady liberty stabbing tyranny on its seal could justify such a measure.
