I'm a state employee. I work in a county-owned building. My office is state-leased. The building has no security personnel. My job involves making unpopular decisions (denying permits) that can cost private citizens great financial loss. Sometimes these citizens become irate. I now have a sign on my office door that says guns are banned in my office.
Does anyone think that the sign on our office door is going to prevent a criminal from committing a crime with a gun? The sign should say "sitting ducks". Although as a state employee (non-law enforcement) I am not allowed to carry a weapon, I would prefer that anyone coming into our office have a doubt as to whether or not any of us have a gun.
This gun ban sends a signal to criminals that we are unarmed and defenseless. Thank you Governor for making me feel unsafe at work. Do you think that posting a speed limit sign will prevent a habitual speeder from speeding? Do you think that banning Big Gulps will prevent someone from going to the grocery store and buying a 5-pound bag of sugar?
This proposed law is so ridiculous it's embarrassing. Criminals will pay no attention to the gun ban. Law abiding citizens will be less safe.
