I cannot say enough good about our state and local law enforcement officers. They go out everyday and face unknown dangers in order to try to keep us safe, but the policemen cannot be everywhere all the time. We the people are ultimately responsible to protect and defend ourselves and our families. Weapon restrictions deny us the ability to do that. I am not advocating that everyone be armed, but the possibility of someone in the crowd being armed might be enough to deter a criminal from planning an attack. The Governor's gun ban in state agencies covers open and concealed carry and takes defensive weapons out of the hands of law-abiding citizens that have been vetted, proven proficiency, and undergone background checks. It even disarms off-duty policemen.. Since 1950, all but two mass shootings have taken place in gun-free zones, namely schools, churches, etc. Law-abiding citizens will refrain from carrying in a weapons-restricted area for fear of losing their permits, and are therefore restricted from being able to protect themselves and those around them. The criminals will ignore the restriction, and are actually drawn to the area because they know they will not meet with any resistance. The last thing we need to do is create more gun-free zones -- they are clearly not working.
