LRI

Allowing LRIs to become paid caregivers has had a major positive impact on our child, ensuring the consistency of familiar caregivers and relieving him from the constant turnover of strangers. It has also spared us from the need to share personal information about his diagnosis with new caregivers, a situation that can often lead to misunderstanding or judgment. We advocate for the removal of the Objective Written Documentation requirement, while maintaining the policy of LRIs as paid caregivers, without the burden of proving the difficulty in securing caregivers for minimal wages with no benefits. Respite care for unpaid LRI caregivers would greatly assist families who can only find occasional help for their loved ones with disabilities.
