To my knowledge teachers prepare a list of materials and already allow parents the option to review and request alternatives.  As a parent, I take it as my responsibility at the beginning of each year to become informed about what my child is learning.  I open a dialogue with the teachers and Adminiatration and make it my business to review any literature I am unfamiliar with.  The old saying "Reading is fundamental" is something I was taught and embraced.  I want my child exposed to many areaas of literature and honestly do not see the need for this action to be passed.  Parents and legislature have dumbed down the education process for our children and it is not working.  Items that I find objectionable, I bring to the Teachers attention and it is handled accordingly.  If it is something that my child is bothered by, we discuss it.  Honestly, there is more violence, sexual innuendo and nightmarish material on regular TV, in the daily news and in video games and movies.  When we, as parents teach our children the difference between fantasy and reality, have open and honest dialogue with the kids and instructors, we do more good than brining an action such as this and subjecting the majority of children in our schools to not have the experience of well rounded education and a love for all types of literature just because a few parents do not like the contents innuendo.  This attitude, I wonder if we should petition Churches to make adjustments to Bible readings because, Mary happened to be an unwed mother and Jesus was Crucified....what is next...censor the History books moreso, delete references to mass murders, Hitler, South Africa because it gives me nightmares to think the Human race could act that way?  Quit making it impossible for teachers to actually teach and help our kids develop imagination, intellect and opinions rather than further censor teachers in their abilities to do their jobs!
