Parents should read the texts listed on the syllabus or do a quick google search for a summary. Teachers already provide alternatives when parents request. This is more red tape. And who decides what is questionable? Shakespeare? Twain? Hawthorne? Let's be honest. Great literature is controversial. So, the parent's kid had nightmares. Well, that means the literature is doing its job! Why didn't the parent read Beloved with the kid, before the kid read it? More micromanagement and blaming of teachers. Less pay. More testing. No respect for teachers. Parents need to do their jobs and it's pretty sad they need a warning label to do it for them.
