Who decides what is sensitive material? As a librarian, I review books, and based on their literary merit, decide whether they are appropriate for our school. This is also the means by which English teachers choose books that are read in their classes. Do some of them have more mature themes? Yes. However, it is the way in which the author uses these themes in his/her book that impacts the merit of the literature.  In order to provide relevant, challenging and well-written literature to students, it is vital that our hands not be tied by an amendment such as this.
