I support the proposed ammendment regarding sensitive or controversial instructional material. I am a parent of a former and a current student in the public school system. I have diligently attended every parent / teacher night, read every syllabus given, and have read many of the assigned books. Not once has the "opt out" option been mentioned by a teacher or included in the syllabus. Not once has a notice of sexually explicit material been given. Everytime the Family Life education content is taught I am thoroughly informed and asked for my consent. Sexually explicit language or situations are "possibly harmful or offensive" when discussed on a basic level of sex education but are not so when included in other curricular subjects?
