As a parent and a product of Virginia public schools (from kindergarten to PhD to faculty at William and MaryI urge you to reject this proposal. My children's teachers and school administrators communicate with us already to make us aware of what they are teaching. Their lessons are already severely impacted by the need to teach to SOLs. Their efforts would be hampered by placing additional restrictions. As an earth scientist, I worry that placing additional restrictions on our teachers will limit their ability to cover solidly accepted scientific knowledge such as global climate change and evolution.
