I support the proposed rule to require parental notification of proposed use of explicit materials. However it should also include parents being able to opt their child out of reading books that suggest and describe CRIMES like this. Education is not enhanced by having high school students read graphic descriptions of rape, bestiality, molestation, child abuse and so on. But that is why this rule was proposed -because school boards have allowed it, and some teachers have a sick notion that such subjects are appropriate for the classroom.
Parents have a right to exempt their children from such subject matter. In fact, I would prefer that it was worded more strongly, to ensure that educators have no excuse for failure to comply with such a requirement. We do NOT need more crime in our schools encouraged by the notoriety and how-to descriptions in books such as these.
