The word "controversial" in this proposal will become controversial.
Currently the responsibility for monitoring what students read resides with the parents, as it should. Teachers send home a syullabus showing what will be read. Most school divisions have procedures in place for parents to opt out of their reading any work on the syllabus. Most divisions have guidelines in place for parents to challenge any book they feel might be unacceptable.
School divisions are already informing parents what is being read in classes. Parents have options for allowing or preventing their children from reading works to which they might object. The system works.
The proposal is superfluous.
