Let's begin by saying that the educational system needs involved parents; however, censoring our children does not prepare them for the real world! The library is about equitable access for all. I am both a middle school librarian and a mother of a middle school student and a high school student. I GET not "wanting" children to grow up too quickly; however, as students are exposed to harsh, violent and racy experiences and/or media messages, we are not protecting them by failing to equip them as responsible and knowledgeable adults. We must allow them the opportunity of testing this knowledge within the safe boundaries of books.
