Please Reject this Amendment

Having been an educator for 6 years and a parent for 25, I fundamentally disagree with the proposed amendment requiring unnecessary scrutiny and possible restriction of various texts in the classroom.  Moody Middle School is the first International Baccalaureate middle school in the United States, and we have a distinguished history of providing rigorous, inquiry-based, internationally-minded, and collaborative instruction to our students.  Together, our teachers choose readings that evoke inquiry and discovery among our students, and take great care in considering age appropriateness and subject matter before assigning a novel, short story, or piece of nonfiction.  This legislation would add an unnecessary layer of scrutiny to an educational setting that already requires teachers to justify much of what we do.
