Pet Store Regulation

We are in the early stages of establishing the Virginia Animal Protection Federation.  It is modeled after the Federation in New York.

In 2019, the Pet Sales Ban Bill (S4234/A6298) was introduced to the NY legislative body.  The NY Fed worked closely with Assistant State Senate Majority Leader Michael Gianaris, Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal, the ASPCA and the Humane Society of the United States on introducing a pet sales ban bill (S4234/A6298) that prohibits the sales of companion animals (dogs, cats and rabbits) in pet stores. The bill will enable animal shelters to hold adoption events at these locations with no money changing hands between the pet store and the shelter. Click here to read Assemblywoman Rosenthal’s press release on the bill.

Please advise on your progress and who to contact as the point person for this effort.
