|Petition Title||Licensure by endorsement requirements for veterinary technicians|
|Date Filed||3/24/2022 [Transmittal Sheet]|
|Petitioner||Amber J. Lee|
The petitioner requests that the Board amend 18VAC150-20-121, which provides requirements for licensure by endorsement of veterinary technicians, to remove 18VAC150-20-121(2) in order to accommodate technicians from other jurisdictions who may have been out of the workforce for an extended period of time.
The petition for rulemaking will be published in the Virginia Register of Regulations on April 25, 2022. The petition will also be published on the Virginia Regulatory Townhall to receive public comment, which will open on April 25, 2022 and will close on May 25, 2022. The Board will consider the petition and all comments in support or opposition at the next meeting after the close of public comment, June 28, 2022. The petitioner will be notified of the Board’s decision after that meeting.

|Agency Decision||Take no action [Transmittal Sheet]|
|Agency Decision Summary||
At its meeting on October 13, 2022, the Board voted to take no action on the petition. The Board determined that 18VAC150-20-121(2) serves as a parallel requirement to clinical work performed in educational settings. Because veterinary technicians can obtain licensure in other jurisdictions without the educational component Virginia requires, the Board finds that the clinical component of required practice prior to issuing a license by endorsement to a veterinary technician is necessary for safety of the public.
