After finding so many health violations in Virginia's abortion clinics, it is evident that more attention needs to be given to this health concern. Women deserve better care. When you find sanitary conditions and up to date medications and staff with the proper training and records that are kept properly, then you can rest. Until then, your job is NOT DONE. Keep vigilant and keep women safe.
You should also make these records more available to the public. We want to know what you find on these inspections just as much as we would at a local restaurant, hospital or other public place.
Sincerely,
Ann Niermeyer
Abortion center regulations are essential for the health and safety of Virginia women and must be maintained, not weakened.
The suspension of operations at a Fairfax abortion facility due to 26 health and safety violations proves that the regulations are working and must be preserved as is, not watered down. The abortion industry has fought regulation for years, yet repeatedly independent inspectors find serious deficiencies, even during announced inspections. Abortion centers are not able to self-regulate. Abortion is not healthcare because it ends lives instead of healing them. However, since abortion operates under the guise of healthcare, abortion centers must adhere to the regulatory standards of other healthcare facilities. Simply, Virginia women deserve nothing less.
Help safeguard the health of women and stop killing babies. I think we all agree that science has proven it is a human life.

Please ensure that facilities that behead and dismember pre-born babies in utero are not allowed to compound this evil by operating in less than absolutely safe and sanitary conditions. Just because a pre-born child currently has no legal right to live, the Commonwealth should not compound this evil be allowing abortion providers to endanger the health of its mother by operating in less than absolutely sanitary conditions.
Women who choose to access abortion clinics need safe and qulaity care. It does no good to relax regulations which are in place to promote safety, quality care and health. Becuase abortion clinics think of themselves as healthcare facilities they need to be bound by the sme regulations which all other helathcare facilities are bound by.

To those who can correct this shortcoming:
Common sense regulations to prevent women from being placed in great danger in abortion clinics must prevail. There is no reason not to expect any woman from having to put her health at risk simply because we fail to demand that her health remain a high priority during a procedure that can quickly go from non-life threatening to great risk of death. There have been all too many cases when the life women have been unnecessarily endangered because of political reluctance to ensure they have the necessary certified care, as well as the ability to quickly be put in the care of a hospital should the abortion go terribly wrong for the woman in addition to the baby that is killed.
There are dozens of procedures that involve far less statistical risk for the woman that also have very strict rules in place to protect women in the unlikely event of a problem. Not to ensure the appropriate level of treatment for women at an abortion clinic is a guarantee that women will be put at risk instead of taking the action that should have been put in place long ago.
Please exercise the opportunity to protect women from needless risk and further trauma to their minds and bodies that already are significant with any abortion.
Thank you and God Bless you!
Brian Prindle

Common sense says abortion clinics need same safety/cleanliness regulations that hospital/health care facilities do.

Please protect all people in all of our medical facilities, regardless of the services provided, for all Virginia women especially.
Abortion is often described as a woman's healthcare service. If that is indeed true then abortion clinics should be required to have the same sanitary standards, the same health and safety requirements required of any other healthcare provider. In abortion clinics women are recieving obstetrical and gynecological exams and treatments, in other words, invasive medical procedures. Sterile and sanitary equipment and utensils, as well as, sterile and sanitary examination and surgical bays are necessary for the services in an abortion clinic to be appropriately descrbed as healthcare services.
Strong regulations of abortion facilities are very important to the health of women who come to these facilities with the assumption that the facility is as safe as any other health care facility. Abortion facilities should not be allowed to self regulate just as any other medical facility is not allowed to do so. Critical health and safety regulations must be maintained, not weakened if women's health is truly deemed to be important.

I have written repeatedly and I don't know what I can say further to impress upon you how crucial is the need to enforce strict safety regulations in all Commonwealth medical clinics, including abortion centers. As a medical professional myself, just considering the psychological trauma alone, of women undergoing abortions (please view the film "The Silent Scream"), leaves me breathless with horror. But the D&C/D&E procedures performed by unregulated -- and therefore unsafe -- abortion "clinics" (sometimes without anesthesia for those who cannot afford to pay for that) often have more in common with the horrors of so-called "back-alley" abortions than with anything that could be termed "healthcare". In the name of our loving God, please get past the denial and SEE the cruel negligence we are allowing! With you in prayer, Patricia Froehlich RN BSN

Please ensure that abortion clinics, where some of Virginia's most vulnerable women can be found, meet strict health and safety regulations. As the recent closure of the Fairfax abortion facility proves, these regulations protect women from unhealthy and sometimes dangerous environments.
All medical facilities should be subject to the most rigorous safety standards. Why would abortion facilities ever be excluded from this common sense practice?

As a longtime peer counselor at a local pregnancy care center, I have heard the same complaints from our clients about the (now closed) Amethyst Women's "Health" Center in Manasses for years, including injuries that resulted in hospitalization. Clearly the types of regulations finally being enforced were a long-needed and commonsense step. It would be a serious and irresponsible move to weaken or remove these regulations.

Abortion centers should both follow the same DOH/JCAHO regulations as those outlined for Medical Centers. These standards should be mandatory across the board as anything less endangers the women. .

The meeting presents an additional opportunity for the public to express its support for these critical safety regulations. Email jeff@vacatholic.org for more details if you are interested in attending. Strong regulations are essential, a point proven yet again last week when The Washington Post reported the state Health Department suspended the license of a Fairfax abortion clinic after inspectors found egregious health and safety violations, documented in a stomach-turning 52-page inspection report. During a two-day inspection, state health officials documented expired medication, sanitary procedure violations and the case of a bleeding patient rushed to the emergency room because the abortion clinic had no available sutures. Further, the Fairfax clinic, American Women’s Services, is one of several owned by Dr. Steven Brigham, an infamous abortionist who was once charged with murder and who has had his medical license revoked or suspended in several states. Even the National Abortion Federation has said Brigham’s “pattern of repeated and serious misconduct that poses a significant threat to patient safety…cannot be allowed to go unchecked in Virginia.” This abortion clinic closure by state health officials illustrates that the three-year-old regulations are working. These critical health and safety regulations must be maintained, not weakened. The abortion industry that aids and abets the likes of Steven Brigham cannot be trusted to protect women’s safety without these strong regulations.
