It is imperative that all students are afforded an education in the Commonwealth of Virginia regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation. The Virginia General Assembly has passed work place protections for the LGBTQ+ community. I was raised by a public educator and I was always told that school was my job as a student. Therefor those same protections that our General Assembly passed should be afforded to our students as they are going to school, which is their version of a job. Also the Supreme Court Ruled in 2020 that Title VII protections extend to the LGBTQ+ community and there has been a close connection between Title VII and Title IX rulings over the year.
Please take this as my support for providing a safe space for our Transgender, Nonbinary, and Queer students to attend Virginia public schools.
