While we must protect all students, including those who identify as transgender, this document establishes unhelpful and dangerous precedents.
Parents are the primary protectors and educators of their children, not the school system, so they should not be misinformed or uninformed about what is happening with or around their children. The only exceptions to this are in cases of actual child abuse/neglect, which is a separate and urgent matter to attend to. What is protective to one is harmful to the other and vice versa. This document requires all children and their families to essentially be lumped into one category, again leading to both unhelpful and potentially dangerous results.
Additionally, careful attention needs to be paid to conducting and adhering to actual research regarding transgender identifying youths. There are balanced ways we can support every child working through their own identity, etc without moving so forcefully in the direction of special interests groups that push an agenda that often is unaware of, undermines, or ignores the nuances of child development.
Strongly oppose this document - we can do better for our children, their families, our schools, and community.
