As a mother and someone who has taught all ages in public schools, private school, and homeschooling, I have some serious concerns. I don’t want students who are already struggling with who they are to be treated poorly, but this has many serious issues. I really don’t even know where to start.
Even something as simple as not allowing teachers to direct any students to the correct restroom, is absurd. I’ve had to politely call out students many times from going in the wrong restroom, not because they had gender confusion, but because they simply weren’t paying attention. It simply saves kids from embarrassment. This shouldn’t be against the rules. And if a student is really having gender issues most schools have at least one extra restroom that’s not gender specific that could be used without having to send a biological boy into the girls’ restroom or vice versa.
And pronouns... Young children are just learning correct pronoun usage. I’ve listened to little ones use the wrong pronouns, not on purpose, but because they are just learning. Let’s not confuse that and hand out punishments. Let’s have some room for some common sense.
And sports... more absurdity. Where are the feminists? Girl’s sports have been fought for long and hard, so are we just going to mess that up now?
And one of the most disconcerting issues of all, the issue of parental rights. Parents are responsible for their children and their moral upbringing, not the state. The fact that the state is trying to use policy to keep parents out of the decisions about their own children’s upbringing is criminal.
Surely, there are people smart enough to figure out policy to protect a small vulnerable population without squelching parental rights and the rights of other students! Again, where is the common sense?
