I STRONGLY support the model policy working to help and protect trans and non-binary students. All students deserve to learn in a safe and supportive school environment, and the fact that this is still even up for negotiation is absurd. The closed minded individuals who argue that these policies would put their children in danger or would mess up their sports teams, for example, are extremely misinformed. What a ridiculous and inconsiderate thing to say. Why are folks still treating Transgender people as if they are someone that everyone should be afraid of? C’mon now...
Trans children aren’t trans because they want to bother or hurt your kids in the locker room. They are Trans because that is part of who they are. It is very real (I promise) and it quite literally has nothing to do with anyone else. Trans kids are amazing and brave and should be celebrated, or at the very least, be given the opportunity to feel safe and welcome in their learning environments. This policy will not have a negative impact on the lives of cisgender children/students (unless they are bullies) and it will have a positive impact on transgender students. Sounds great to me. Weve got to protect and uplift Trans children!
