I recommend the removal of the CGFNS exam. Foreign trained nurses will continue to take the NCLEX, and English competency exam. The CGFNS is an additional barrier to access for foreign trained nurses that limits Virginia’s ability to attract competent nursing labor. Virginia must utilize the global supply of competent healthcare providers to meet the future demand of our aging population. Otherwise, other states will gain a competitive first-mover advantage by obtaining staffing resources. Please encourage your fellow colleagues to remove the CGFNS exam prior to licensure.
