Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

No, this is awful!

Simply put, NO! This is absolutely awful. Help students decide without talking to parents? Don't question anyone going into the restrooms? Reporting individuals? Are you kidding me? Students will abuse this for the wrong reasons. My daughter only heard a little piece of this and is already concerned about going back to school and a boy being allowed in the girls bathroom because he "identifies" as a girl. No. This undermines parents and scares our children, and is a way the government is trying to get us to conform to their idea of us having to tolerate everything without any sense of morals. I don't believe in that. Also have we considered the possibility of rape in older age groups, a rise in unwanted teen pregnancies, and this is some way nurturing some weird perversion in some individuals? Leave things the way they are! Stop trying to run every aspect of our children's lives and let the parents handle this stuff at home.
