Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Concerns over transgender public school policy

These decisions and choices need to stay within the family. Children will manipulate these policies, children will be taken from loving homes and placed in foster care. Do we really need more children with mental health issues in foster care?  I had a friend whose 5 year old child actually thought she was a dog, they even ate out of the dog bowl. This went on for a while, we were correct to tell this child based on what body you have, you are not a dog. Same applies to being male and female. You are or you are not. Transgenders do not commit suicide more likely because they do not get support, it is because they have a mental illness that needs to be addressed.  Same a depression. Children are notorious copy cats of their peers, think the ripple effect.  Please stick to education, math, language arts, science, history, not hotly debated social problems. Not your place.
