It is unfortunate, but our schools desperately need this guidance from the state. Without it, too many school boards are reluctant to codify policies that protect transgender students for fear of the political fallout.
It angers me that so many still see LGBTQ issues as political issues that one can choose or not choose to support. Our transgender students are not trying to make a political statement. These are not political issues. They are human issues, and it shouldn't be choice whether or not we provide equal access, rights, and protections to these students.
I fully support the proposed policy, and I applaud the state for undertaking this hard, but necessary work.
