One time in the middle of the night I had to go. Went out of tent, and there were other tents in this unlit area, but spaced far apart, and sure enough there is a timber rattler on the path. I went behind the tent away from the rattle. If you think people should be finding places 200 feet away in the night, you clearly haven't experienced camping in the woods. As long as you are adequately discrete and don't foul water supplies, that should be all that is required.
